(This is an open thread. Feel free to pop in if you have a character, even if you didn't come to talk in the OOC interest thread I started. It's very much a coffee morning with socialising and friend-making in mind, so feel free to come up and chat IC and make some friends. Loose posting order, so don't feel you need to wait for everyone else. Just go when you think appropriate.)

Ponyville, Equestria. The moon was shining high, the birds were quiet and hushed and the ponies were tired and nervous. This was a very different Ponyville from the one which had been here just a few months ago. While the place was still bustling with small town traffic, the ponies looked at each other warily, unsure and hesitant, a subtle tension in the air. Food was becoming scarce, and they were wary of the inevitable political infighting which would come from events of late. So, they needed somewhere to escape their worries and to relax and to talk.

Glimmer had just the answer. The eager pony actress was a regular at the local Ponyville coffee shop, and thus had slipped in the idea to the proprietor that they should hold a coffee morning. Pay a little money, get free coffee and you get to chill and relax in a comfy lounge. Meet other ponies, make new friends. It was like Equestria of old.

The happy model was in town for a shoot once again, and now she trotted into the coffee lounge after paying her bits. The stunning mare giggled with enthusiasm before bounding straight for the coffee machine. Perhaps she'd make a new friend? A new contact? She didn't know, but she was brimming with anticipation. This was going to be so much fun. If only there was a little more light... oh how she missed the warm rays of the sun. Still, it couldn't be helped. This was how life was now, under the starry sky and the moon, she'd make some friends over some coffee and get in some much needed socialising. After all, she was a stressed from work as well.

After faffing around with the machine for a few moments, the actress turned around, holding her paper to go mug in her hoof and looked around for some ponies to talk to.

As it was, Star Catcher wasn't even particularly a fan of coffee. It was too hot for her to enjoy immediately, and even though she'd been told of all sorts of different mixes she could make to make the drink taste better, it still left that aftertaste that she just couldn't quite get over. Nonetheless, there was plenty reason for the mare to come to the small veranda - even if the coffee was something she had to pay for, nothing was preventing her from coming in and socializing with the other ponies, all of whom seemed more willing to relax and take the night's load off their shoulders with a cup - or, in the case of others, that bit of caffeine was all the kick they needed to stay awake, even when their bodies pushed them to sleep due to the night sky.

Besides, despite being a coffee shop, coffee wasn't the only thing they sold, so she could still have a bite while she was here - many of the pastries that were sold here were excess from Sugarcube Corner's batches, which meant that, save one of the Cake family having a stuffed nose or other such rarity, the pastries at least were quite delicious - and, as part of the deal the store's owner had with the larger shop, a portion of the proceeds for this coffee night went to them.

The mare nodded once to the clerk as she made her way in, digging into her saddlebags for a few bits before making her way into the homely shop, her ears pinning back as she took in the scents. It was always a treat - there was a small fireplace against the back of the store burning warmly, and several smaller, luminescent magelight crystals providing light among the store. Throughout the room, she could hear several distinct conversations - weather plans, the food crisis, even a bit of propaganda for Nightmare Moon - although the latter was moreso coming from the small radio speaker in the corner of the room.

Star Catcher made her way over to the small table, taking a plate in hoof and setting a donut upon it, before making eye contact with the mare who had approached concurrently, for something to drink. Her ears perked up - a new face? Even having moved here just before the Summer Sun Celebration, Star still didn't know every face in the town - but how was it this one seemed to stand out to her for some reason, as if she were strangely familiar? "Er... Hi there - pleasure to meet you." she spoke, the mare doing a rather awkward job at trying to break the ice and start up a conversation.

Well, it was another great day... night... Whatever, the point was he was here to enjoy a little bit of time away from work and hopefully go back with more ideas. Of course, first he'd have to actually wake up. He had just gotten off the train, and his sleep schedule had never been the best even before the sun disappeared.

The unicorn froze mid-step, stifling a yawn as he spotted a coffee shop. Good, caffeine, just what he needed. He trotted right in, dropping some bits in with the rest to pay his way in and heading straight for the coffee machines.

It was only after he drank a couple swigs that he noticed the frantic squeaking from his pocket. His pet mouse poked its head out, looking up at him sleepily as it rubbed its belly.

"I know, I'll get you some food, Alba. Speaking of, I should eat something too... When did I last eat?" He said, humming and tapping his chin with a hoof. "Yesterday. I should get some breakfast." He ordered the cheesiest food he could find for Alba, and a little more since he'd be eating most of the cheesy food.

Indeed, it may be a coffee shop but it sold other things. That was just like saying a tea room wouldn't serve coffee because it wasn't in their interest, when it clearly was. There was cake and food there too, though one might have a hard time finding cheese that wasn't a cheese cake. It was looking good so far, the ponies looked a little more relaxed in the moonlight, even if there was still the ever present voice of Nightmare propaganda.

Glimmer had never liked those propaganda messages herself, but she certainly wouldn't dare to object to it. Besides, somepony might want to listen to it. She was much more interested in talking about the other ponies present.

Speaking of those ponies, one walked right up to her and greeted her somewhat awkwardly. A white pegasus mare, a pretty one too, shyly sparking up a conversation with her. "Well hi hi!" Glimmer called happily, beaming at her. Her voice was actually rather country. After all, she was from rural Fillydelphia. Glimmer was well spoken though, and it wouldn't be too hard to make her out from her cheery accent. "I'm Glimmer, it's nice to meet you... ahh..." she paused, grasping for a name. "Sorry. I live in Canterlot. I don't really know anyone here. I'm down here quite a lot though," she enthused. "A lot of shoots down by Whitetail Woods and the edge of the Everfree, as well as in the town. Ponyville is so pretty. I'm a model see, and an actress," she enthused happily, her mouth running away from her as ever.

Still, behind her at the coffee station there was a pony after her own heart, chugging down coffee like there was no tomorrow. Glimmer took a sip of her own cup and gave him a kindly smile as she caught his eye, wondering... did he have a pet mouse? That was so cute!

Star Catcher shifted back just a bit, taken just a bit aback by how approachable and friendly the unicorn was. Even in a town as laid-back as Ponyville had been before Nightmare Moon's arrival, there hadn't been any ponies quite as hyper, as talkative, as excitable as this mare. "Star Catcher." she provided, her ears pinning back as the radio looped once again, the mare continuing to speak enough for the two of them - though, one thing did catch her ear - she'd mentioned being from Canterlot?

Her forehooves locked up just a bit, the mare not quite fully able to hide her disdain for the elitist city knowing the sort of ponies her family and their friends had been, but, at the very least this mare seemed to be quite cordial; even as cautious as she was around being too openly social around other ponies, there was just something about this mare that was lifting her spirits and making her want to smile back.

"Oh? That's... quite interesting." she spoke, uncertain of just how to follow up on the mare, and unable to think fast enough to keep up with her pace of conversation. "I think so too - so much more relaxed than the upper-class socializing I'm used to." she murmured, before taking a step back to allow another pony, a unicorn stallion - to take a few treats and move back to a table with an earth pony mare - a date, possibly, but both of them looked a bit on the formal side; a business meeting might be the better conclusion.

"Er, you think we should...?" she began, glancing at the coffee maker and the treats that they were blocking off, before backpedaling to allow others through.

Rabi blinked a bit as he met the eyes of a mare that was talking to another mare, tilting his head a bit at her smile. Did he know her? No, he didn't recognize her at all, so why was she smiling at him? Oh well, this was Ponyville after all.

"Upper class socializing... Canterlot?" He said, moving over to the two mares quizzically. "I used to study there for a bit, never really liked it... Too stuffy for my tastes."

The unicorn nodded to himself, gulping down some more coffee and smiling as the caffeine did its work. "Ah coffee, my oldest friend. Anyways, who are you two?"

Glimmer gritted her teeth as the radio screeched and looped around again, her ears folding back and shying away. "Ahh..." she gasped, shaking her head. But what was that the mare had said? "Oh, yes, yes," she remarked, becoming aware that she was very much in the way of the other ponies trying to get to the coffee machines. Glimmer meandered away a little to stand slightly away, still holding her coffee.

"Wow, high society eh?" she wondered with an eager smile. "I would love to go to one of those fancy parties. I've... well... this is about normal for me. Though, usually there are more flaring lights, loud music and alcohol," she enthused with a happy giggle, looking over at the stallion who had approached. Oh good, he'd caught her gaze. That was nice.

"Hi there," Glimmer enthused happily. "I'm Glimmer, how are you? Yeah... We were just talking about Canterlot parties. I'm not really important enough for those parties to go. I get to see all the lights from the Gala though, that''s stunning. I like Ponyville though, it reminds me of my old hometown. I'm from Fillydelphia," she enthused happily.

Star pursed her lips. "Yeah - it's... a bit of a long story, but Canterlot's something of a bitter spot for me." she answered. "At least here, nopony really cares if you're rich, poor, earth pony, thestral - as long as you're friendly you can always find a friend or another to talk with." she replied, her wings shuffling a bit, before she caught the gaze of another unicorn that had approached, a grey unicorn with what looked to be a rather formal work coat for this sort of setting.

"Star Catcher." she repeated, to the newcomer, the mare nodding. "And yes - Glimmer and I were just talking about social events." she explained, offering a smile despite her discomfort. "And don't worry - you're really not missing a whole lot by not attending the Gala. It's more a business party anyway; there's no real fun involved, really it's just a place for the wealthy to be wealthy and socialize with the royals." she answered, her shoulders slumping. "And I for one and glad to be out of there."

"Never been to a Canterlot party, too busy studying at the time and I have no plans to go back now." Rabi said, looking at the mare that apparently knew about Canterlot stuff. "Oh, I'm much better now. Coffee is great, I would make my own, but it probably wouldn't be as good." He added, punctuating it with another swig of the drink.

"My name is Rabi Dequo, and this is Alba." He said as the mouse poked it's head out his pocket, holding a bit of food.

Glimmer nodded happily at Star Catcher's remark. If it was painful for her, she understood and wouldn't mention it. No reason to. Still, the Gala did sound fun to her. If it was just a business party, then perhaps there were connections to make. Ponies she could give her card to, which would lead to jobs and money and fame of her own.

"Well, doesn't matter now," she enthused happily, her happy tone no doubt making Star feel a little better. "You're in Ponyville and that's that. I find it's nicer, and friendlier," she mused happily, turning her attention to Rabi once again.

"Oh?" she wondered "Studying ehh?" she asked, blinking a little at the words. "I was never good at that. I could never concentrate properly. But hey, I'm sure you're smart enough to make your own coffee. It sounds like you're smart enough at least," she beamed, glancing down at the mouse. "Aww... little Alba is so cute," she enthused, leaning down to look at him. "Hey Alba. I'm Glimmer, nice to meet you!"

The mare shifted back just a bit as the mouse came out of the stallion's cloak, the pony a bit surprised. While pets weren't exactly a rarity by any means, they were typically indoor sorts of animals, or creatures that could be kept in backyards. "A pleasure to meet both of you." she added, as Glimmer cooed over the small rodent, the mare looking between the model and the scientist, feeling just a bit underwhelmed by her own job as a weathermare - and one whose very body gave plenty of troubles.

"It really is - and a lot more relaxed. So many things you're not obligated to attend - it's amazing, is what it is." she repeated, her wings rustling a bit as she stifled a yawn. It'd been a busy time at work recently - although nothing could quite compare to the night-shift weather ponies having to come together and help the day-shift adapt to the new conditions. Still, she figured, for the most part they'd managed to come together just fine, and while the moon didn't give quite as much heat as the sun, it had thankfully become much brighter as of late; Star Catcher imagined Nightmare Moon had a hoof in this. "So - what do you study, anyway?" she asked, hoping to keep the conversation as far away from her life story as possible.

"Oh, studying isn't that hard. Anyone can pick up a book and learn from it." Rabi said, chuckling a bit as Alba gave a squeak in greeting to the mare. "Besides, it's not that I can't make it, it's that I wouldn't make it as well."

The unicorn smiled a bit, shifting the labcoat a bit to make it more comfortable as he listened to what they were saying. He turned to Star as she asked her question, tilting his head a bit. She seemed a bit uncomfortable...

"I mostly studied chemistry and engineering, though I dabble in pretty much any kind of science. Speaking of, any ideas for what you want to be a reality in those fields? I'm out of ideas right now." Rabi said, looking between the two mares.

Glimmer looked up from fawning over the cute mouse, giggling at the little squeak it gave off. "Ooh, kemiz... chemistry," she struggled over the word for a moment. "That sounds really complicated. I bet you're uber smart," she enthused happily. "Oh no... I could never really get studying. I just, well. I could just never quite get the hang of it," she mused.

Indeed, those were two things Glimmer knew very little about. She'd heard of them before, though chemistry had been of little interest to her when she grew up. Science had been quite beyond her talents. She knew more of ponies and acting than anything else. Even then, her knowledge of plays tended to be lacking at times.

"Ideas?" she asked, blinking in surprise. She had no idea what she wanted those things to do for her. She barely knew what they were about. "Well... uhh..." she trailed off, unsure how to answer that. Instead, she looked at Star for assistance, taking a swig of her piping hot coffee and gagging slightly to hide her embarrassment. "Ahh... hot... ahh... too much..."

Star shook her head. "I'm afraid I'm none too knowledgeable in either field - all I can really think of to hope for is that, one day Equestria will have gotten over this food crisis that we've found ourselves in, what with eternal night forcing ponies to relearn how to harvest their crops." she pointed out, giving a sideways glance at Glimmer - a cheerful soul, to be sure, though from what she had seen of her the unicorn actor could be more than a little flighty.

The mare frowned - seeing Glimmer flustered like this made Star uncertain for her. Perhaps they could encourage her to cheer up somehow? "Er... Glimmer, you said you were an actress? Care to tell us about your performances?" she offered, hoping Glimmer could take over - Star was horrible at leading on a conversation, and she knew it.

Well... He supposed he couldn't have really expected much more from these mares when he asked that... Oh well, perhaps he could create something to help food grow with no sunlight.

"The only reason I was able to study effectively is because I was interested in the subjects. If I had been studying something such as literature, I doubt I would have lasted through the class." Rabi said before Star turned the conversation onto the other mare.
